In June 2023, Surface Area Dance Theatre hosted deaf artist and writer Louise Stern and visual artist Hetain Patel on a week-long residency to transform Stern’s personal archive of handwritten ephemera into a contemporary live performance.
The resulting work, Bonewords, was devised in collaboration with a professional and community cast and toured across the North-East of England.
